Works of Art Gallery
"The Echo"...c. 1995. Collection of poems about my family and I; some sad, some funny.
"Satellite Drive In"...c. 1997. Step right in, the show's about to begin. This project was actually supposed to be a collaboration with a woman I was corresponding with in Australia. The joint project never happened; and eventually it morphed into a little collection of songs that I wrote and performed at various times
"Kaleidoscope VideoSpace"...c. 1990-1993. Yes, I was also the Cable Guy in another life. I ran a couple "Public Access" TV studios where people in the community could come in and learn to make their own television shows. In our spare time at the cable station, I started a weekly video art series called Kaleidoscope. My two assistants and I made up new video art pieces to show each week to an unsuspecting public.
"Battery Steele"...c. 1996. I have been visiting Peaks Island, Maine for over 20 years now. It's a small island in Casco Bay. Almost hidden from view on the island is Battery Steele, a World War II defensive structure. This is a series of photos I made with an early digital camera as I explored the remains of this structure.
"Peaks Island Weekend"...c. 1980s. This is yet another photo essay about my beloved little island in Maine. During this outing, I also made a series of simple drawings and recorded some thoughts along the way.
"Zuni"...1972. A college friend of mine, just back from Vietnam, called and asked me if I wanted to do a project about Zuni, New Mexico. Of course, I said "yes"; he and his wife picked me up in Wichita, Kansas where I was teaching at the time, and we headed out to New Mexico from there... with me sitting in the open back of his Ford pick up all the way there! We stayed on the Zuni reservation for several days; and we both shot tons of photos. The book we hoped to publish about Zuni never happened, but here are some the images I captured back then.
"1976"...My friend Jude and I did a lot of different projects relating to the history and lore of railroading in New Jersey as part of the United States Bicentennial celebration. Portable video taping equipment was just in the beginning stages back then and only in black and white. My favorite memory of that time was taping and documenting the visit of the American Freedom Train which came to Trenton, New Jersey powered by a steam locomotive. The train had many exhibit cars that had been built for public display relating to the 200 year history of our country.
"The Songs and Stories of Val Verde County"...1968. Could college be complete without the mandatory road trip. While in art school, I took a long trip from Michigan to the southwest and even stopping briefly in Mexico. From that trip, I created two photo based projects, both of which had liquid photographic emulsion hand painted onto canvas and paper to produce an unusual look. Here are some of those images from the emulsion project on paper; along with some images I juxtaposed back then with the Old Met photos and some comments I recorded.
