Works of Art Gallery
This is the virtual gallery space of Art Krauss. It has been on line for about seven years now. Broadband is highly recommended for this site.

Some of the exhibits are no longer open or have been moved to the other site "Into the Mystic".
"Must Death come to the Old Met"...In 1967 I took a sabbatical from college and roamed the streets of Manhattan. I happened upon the site of the demolition of the old New York City Metropolitan Opera House..."The Old Met". The photos document what I saw that day as the crews continued to dismantle the building, much to the dismay of many New Yorkers. Just off the side of the building was a makeshift sales office where various artifacts rescued from the demolition were being sold to the public.
"Chain of Rocks"...c.1999. Chain of Rocks is a visual and prose essay about a journey along Route 66 in the 1940's; with authentic music from that era along the way. All of the images were shot on Peaks Island, Maine at the site of a World War II defensive structure called Battery Steele. The images were modified and digitally mounted on pieces of hand made paper that I created in the 1980's.
"Into the Mystic"...2003. Recent words, words, and more words; mingled with a few images. The current project is "The Quest"...trying my hand at non-traditional Haikus.
"The Freddie Saga"...2003. And then there's Freddie! I call this a graphic novel. A lot of weird things seem to happen to this little guy; I don't know why. He's always smiling. Follow his adventures. Could there more ?
7/4/2003 Cape Elizabeth, Maine
"The Continuing Adventures of Marvin the Mouse"...1997-2002. A series of short stories that I composed for my children to give as a gift each year at holiday time. You will meet Marvin, his best friend Becky, and Marvin's very, very wise father. Each year, Marvin with the help of his father and some ancient wisdom, finds why things are the way they are and how to appreciate life; and all of it's challenges, mysteries, and misadventures!
"Blue Moon Diner"...1970-2000. My original, recorded musical compositions. I play all the instruments, sing all the songs. My early projects were limited edition vinyl record albums which came with various art objects such as silk screen prints. My more recent projects were recorded in limited edition cassette tapes. The Golden Acorn is my personal favorite. It consists of 80 minutes of original music and a book with illustrations by my children, Peter and Emily who were then 9 and 7 years old. It is a "grown up ferry tale that I wrote with the suggestions and contributions from my kids as well!
"In Memory..." c. 1996. In 1975, I met a woman who called herself Jude. For the next 4 years, we were friends, lovers, and co-adventurers. We restored a small 19th century train station in central New Jersey as part of the United States Bicentennial celebration. About 1980, Jude and I went off our separate ways; and I was saddened to learn two years ago, that she had passed away in 1997. Jude was an artist, crafts person, poet, and scholar of extraordinary talent and perception. She spent most of the last years of her life in the British Isles; particularly Glasgow, Scotland where she did extensive art, study, and research. After I learned of her passing, I was able to find some examples of her last works of art which includes a mosaic installation in a railway station in Glasgow. For the last year of her life, she returned to; and lived in the little train station that we had fixed up so long ago. Thanks Jude for one of the greatest times in my life!
